About Us

mini mermaid clothing is a kaleidoscope of colourful garments reflecting the bright personalities of our future. Designed to capture the excitement and wonder of the world through the eyes of tomorrow. mini mermaid collections were inspired by and brought to life in 2005 - shortly after the birth of my first daughter - Trinty Rose. The motivation to start mini mermaid clothing was due to a need for 'time out' from new motherly duties, a craving for garments which were 'different', unique in style, made in Australia, practical, feminine, and not just pink in colour, to dress my new baby girl.

The first launch of our range was in 2006, at the Eumundi Markets, which saw numerous
other mothers fall in love with mini mermaids as well. This first range was designed
purley for infants (up to 2 years) - using new cotton fabrics, blended with vintage
fabrics in styles reminiscent of old-worldy charm. It was soon apparent that mini mermaid
would need to evolve into larger sizes and various styles to accomodate the growing
appreciation for my new label. This also saw a modern, contemporary twist be born.

I soon discovered that it would be a real challenge to continue to grow my label as a
sole designer, manufacturer, sales, and full time mother of a 1 year old. I would need
to contract out aspects of the business to others and considered taking the
manufacturing of mini mermaid off-shore.  Ultimately I wanted to keep my label
Australian Made - and it didn't take long to finalise that decision.

I soon learnt that there were many clothing manufacturers desperate for work locally,
but I had alot of difficulty finding skilled graders and patternmakers. Unfortunately it
seemed that many skills were being lost locally and I made a very conscious, ethical
and socially responsible decision to create jobs locally. All of our garments are
designed, patterned, graded, manufactured and labeled in 100% sweat shop free
conditions - made with love - to bring special and unique designs to life!

mini mermaid is made predominately from vintage fabrics, therefore every garment
is unique. The vibrant colours and designs of these fabrics can't help but make you
smile. I personally love beautiful vintage embroidered doileys which have been
worked by hand, another skill that unfortunately is being lost, and artworks randomly
discarded. I find it very exciting to transform someone's beautiful needle work into
another form. Through modern means I have found numerous people around the
world that also share a love of beautiful fabric and textiles, therefore the fabric in
my creations has been reclaimed from landfill globally.

In 2008 mini mermaid continues to evolve.
With the success of my Summer 2008/2009 range I am now pleased to introduce
my first 'real' winter range, Winter 2009, which includes fun yet sophisticated
styling for your mini mermaid.  This collection features lined jackets,
tailored pants, fitted pinafores, vests, kurtas and dresses - all made with
limited edition vintage fabrics sourced worldwide, complete with all of
mini mermaids trademark detailing!

I am also pleased to introduce the newest member of the mini mermaid
family - Lily Belle, who along with Trinity is a great source of inspiration.

I am following my dreams and ethics as an artist and parent. I love what I make and
do, and I hope you enjoy my creations too! As many parents would agree, your
perspective, priorities and expectations of life will often take a different twist when
you have a child's future in the palm of your hand. As responsible parents, we need
to make conscious decisions to protect and sustain this earth for our children and
our children's children.

It was not given to you by your parents
It was loaned to you by your children"
